Kilobyte to Bit Converter
Digital storage · unit-converter
Convert Kilobyte to Bit with fixed input and output units, a step-by-step formula line, and reference tables. This hub uses decimal byte units (kB, MB, GB, …) and decimal megabits; the main converter also includes binary (KiB, MiB, …) units.

About Kilobyte
The kilobyte (KB) is 10³ bytes (decimal kB). Binary KiB (1024 B) is a separate unit in the main converter (kibibyte).
About Bit
A bit is a binary digit. Here 1 byte = 8 bits, so the byte-equivalent of one bit is 0.125 bytes. Networking speeds often use bits per second.
How to convert kilobytes to bits
1 kilobyte is equal to 8000 bit in this tool (values are compared in byte-equivalents):
1 kb = (1,000 B ÷ 0.125 B) bit = 8000 bit
Each kilobyte counts as 1,000 bytes and each bit as 0.125 bytes, so one kb equals 1,000 ÷ 0.125 bit = 8000 bit.
Let d(kb) be the numeric amount in Kilobyte (kb), and d(bit) the amount in Bit (bit). Then:
d(bit) = d(kb) × (1,000 / 0.125)
Equivalently, divide by how many kb fit into one bit (bytes per bit divided by bytes per kb):
d(bit) = d(kb) ÷ 0.000125
Or: bit = kilobyte ÷ 0.000125
Examples
Example #1: Convert 1 kb to bit
1 kb = 1 kb × (1,000/0.125) bit = 8000 bit
1 kb = 1 kb ÷ 0.000125 = 8000 bit
Example #2: Convert 10 kb to bit
10 kb = 10 kb × (1,000/0.125) bit = 80000 bit
10 kb = 10 kb ÷ 0.000125 = 80000 bit
Summary
To convert Kilobyte to Bit, multiply the value in kb by the ratio of bytes per kb divided by bytes per bit. Equivalently: value_bit = value_kb × (1000 / 0.125). Numerically, 1 kb equals 8000 bit.
Relationship context
You are converting between byte-based units (decimal SI: kB, MB, GB, …) (Kilobytes) and bit-based units (converted via 8 bits per byte) (Bits). Bit units are mapped through 8 bits per byte, then scaled with the same decimal prefixes as byte units. The numeric factor is 8.000000e+3.
