Megabit to Kilobyte Converter
Digital storage · unit-converter
Convert Megabit to Kilobyte with fixed input and output units, a step-by-step formula line, and reference tables. This hub uses decimal byte units (kB, MB, GB, …) and decimal megabits; the main converter also includes binary (KiB, MiB, …) units.

About Megabit
The megabit (Mb) is 10⁶ bits. Dividing by 8 gives byte-equivalents for data size; ISP speeds (Mbps) refer to megabits per second, not megabytes.
About Kilobyte
The kilobyte (KB) is 10³ bytes (decimal kB). Binary KiB (1024 B) is a separate unit in the main converter (kibibyte).
How to convert megabits to kilobytes
1 megabit is equal to 125 kilobyte in this tool (values are compared in byte-equivalents):
1 mbit = (125,000 B ÷ 1,000 B) kb = 125 kb
Each megabit counts as 125,000 bytes and each kilobyte as 1,000 bytes, so one mbit equals 125,000 ÷ 1,000 kb = 125 kb.
Let d(mbit) be the numeric amount in Megabit (mbit), and d(kb) the amount in Kilobyte (kb). Then:
d(kb) = d(mbit) × (125,000 / 1,000)
Equivalently, divide by how many mbit fit into one kb (bytes per kb divided by bytes per mbit):
d(kb) = d(mbit) ÷ 0.008
Or: kilobyte = megabit ÷ 0.008
Examples
Example #1: Convert 1 mbit to kilobyte
1 mbit = 1 mbit × (125,000/1,000) kb = 125 kb
1 mbit = 1 mbit ÷ 0.008 = 125 kb
Example #2: Convert 10 mbit to kilobyte
10 mbit = 10 mbit × (125,000/1,000) kb = 1250 kb
10 mbit = 10 mbit ÷ 0.008 = 1250 kb
Summary
To convert Megabit to Kilobyte, multiply the value in mbit by the ratio of bytes per mbit divided by bytes per kb. Equivalently: value_kb = value_mbit × (125000 / 1000). Numerically, 1 mbit equals 125 kb.
Relationship context
You are converting between bit-based units (converted via 8 bits per byte) (Megabits) and byte-based units (decimal SI: kB, MB, GB, …) (Kilobytes). Bit units are mapped through 8 bits per byte, then scaled with the same decimal prefixes as byte units. The numeric factor is 1.250000e+2.
