Megabit to Terabyte Converter

Digital storage · unit-converter

Convert Megabit to Terabyte with fixed input and output units, a step-by-step formula line, and reference tables. This hub uses decimal byte units (kB, MB, GB, …) and decimal megabits; the main converter also includes binary (KiB, MiB, …) units.

About Megabit

The megabit (Mb) is 10⁶ bits. Dividing by 8 gives byte-equivalents for data size; ISP speeds (Mbps) refer to megabits per second, not megabytes.

About Terabyte

The terabyte (TB) is 10¹² bytes in this tool (decimal SI). Large drives and cloud tiers are usually quoted in TB using powers of ten.

How to convert megabits to terabytes

1 megabit is equal to 1.25000000e-7 terabyte in this tool (values are compared in byte-equivalents):

1 mbit = (125,000 B ÷ 1,000,000,000,000 B) tb = 1.25000000e-7 tb

Each megabit counts as 125,000 bytes and each terabyte as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, so one mbit equals 125,000 ÷ 1,000,000,000,000 tb = 1.25000000e-7 tb.

Let d(mbit) be the numeric amount in Megabit (mbit), and d(tb) the amount in Terabyte (tb). Then:

d(tb) = d(mbit) × (125,000 / 1,000,000,000,000)

Equivalently, divide by how many mbit fit into one tb (bytes per tb divided by bytes per mbit):

d(tb) = d(mbit) ÷ 8000000

Or: terabyte = megabit ÷ 8000000

Examples

Example #1: Convert 1 mbit to terabyte

1 mbit = 1 mbit × (125,000/1,000,000,000,000) tb = 0.000000125 tb

1 mbit = 1 mbit ÷ 8000000 = 0.000000125 tb

Example #2: Convert 10 mbit to terabyte

10 mbit = 10 mbit × (125,000/1,000,000,000,000) tb = 0.00000125 tb

10 mbit = 10 mbit ÷ 8000000 = 0.00000125 tb

Summary

To convert Megabit to Terabyte, multiply the value in mbit by the ratio of bytes per mbit divided by bytes per tb. Equivalently: value_tb = value_mbit × (125000 / 1000000000000). Numerically, 1 mbit equals 1.25e-7 tb.

Relationship context

You are converting between bit-based units (converted via 8 bits per byte) (Megabits) and byte-based units (decimal SI: kB, MB, GB, …) (Terabytes). Bit units are mapped through 8 bits per byte, then scaled with the same decimal prefixes as byte units. The numeric factor is 1.250000e-7.
