Megabyte to Kilobyte Converter
Digital storage · unit-converter
Convert Megabyte to Kilobyte with fixed input and output units, a step-by-step formula line, and reference tables. This hub uses decimal byte units (kB, MB, GB, …) and decimal megabits; the main converter also includes binary (KiB, MiB, …) units.

About Megabyte
The megabyte (MB) is 10⁶ bytes (decimal). File sizes and download speeds are often discussed in MB alongside megabits per second (Mb/s) for networks.
About Kilobyte
The kilobyte (KB) is 10³ bytes (decimal kB). Binary KiB (1024 B) is a separate unit in the main converter (kibibyte).
How to convert megabytes to kilobytes
1 megabyte is equal to 1000 kilobyte in this tool (values are compared in byte-equivalents):
1 mb = (1,000,000 B ÷ 1,000 B) kb = 1000 kb
Decimal steps: 1 MB = 1,000 kB (10³ kilobytes per megabyte).
Each megabyte counts as 1,000,000 bytes and each kilobyte as 1,000 bytes, so one mb equals 1,000,000 ÷ 1,000 kb = 1000 kb.
Let d(mb) be the numeric amount in Megabyte (mb), and d(kb) the amount in Kilobyte (kb). Then:
d(kb) = d(mb) × (1,000,000 / 1,000)
Equivalently, divide by how many mb fit into one kb (bytes per kb divided by bytes per mb):
d(kb) = d(mb) ÷ 0.001
Or: kilobyte = megabyte ÷ 0.001
Examples
Example #1: Convert 1 mb to kilobyte
1 mb = 1 mb × (1,000,000/1,000) kb = 1000 kb
1 mb = 1 mb ÷ 0.001 = 1000 kb
Example #2: Convert 10 mb to kilobyte
10 mb = 10 mb × (1,000,000/1,000) kb = 10000 kb
10 mb = 10 mb ÷ 0.001 = 10000 kb
Summary
To convert Megabyte to Kilobyte, multiply the value in mb by the ratio of bytes per mb divided by bytes per kb. Equivalently: value_kb = value_mb × (1000000 / 1000). Numerically, 1 mb equals 1000 kb.
Relationship context
Both units are byte-based units (decimal SI: kB, MB, GB, …). Factors are fixed relative to one byte, so conversions are exact in floating-point arithmetic for this tool. The factor from Megabyte to Kilobyte is 1.000000e+3 (1 mb = 1000 kb).
