Megabyte to Megabit Converter
Digital storage · unit-converter
Convert Megabyte to Megabit with fixed input and output units, a step-by-step formula line, and reference tables. This hub uses decimal byte units (kB, MB, GB, …) and decimal megabits; the main converter also includes binary (KiB, MiB, …) units.

About Megabyte
The megabyte (MB) is 10⁶ bytes (decimal). File sizes and download speeds are often discussed in MB alongside megabits per second (Mb/s) for networks.
About Megabit
The megabit (Mb) is 10⁶ bits. Dividing by 8 gives byte-equivalents for data size; ISP speeds (Mbps) refer to megabits per second, not megabytes.
How to convert megabytes to megabits
1 megabyte is equal to 8 megabit in this tool (values are compared in byte-equivalents):
1 mb = (1,000,000 B ÷ 125,000 B) mbit = 8 mbit
Each megabyte counts as 1,000,000 bytes and each megabit as 125,000 bytes, so one mb equals 1,000,000 ÷ 125,000 mbit = 8 mbit.
Let d(mb) be the numeric amount in Megabyte (mb), and d(mbit) the amount in Megabit (mbit). Then:
d(mbit) = d(mb) × (1,000,000 / 125,000)
Equivalently, divide by how many mb fit into one mbit (bytes per mbit divided by bytes per mb):
d(mbit) = d(mb) ÷ 0.125
Or: megabit = megabyte ÷ 0.125
Examples
Example #1: Convert 1 mb to megabit
1 mb = 1 mb × (1,000,000/125,000) mbit = 8 mbit
1 mb = 1 mb ÷ 0.125 = 8 mbit
Example #2: Convert 10 mb to megabit
10 mb = 10 mb × (1,000,000/125,000) mbit = 80 mbit
10 mb = 10 mb ÷ 0.125 = 80 mbit
Summary
To convert Megabyte to Megabit, multiply the value in mb by the ratio of bytes per mb divided by bytes per mbit. Equivalently: value_mbit = value_mb × (1000000 / 125000). Numerically, 1 mb equals 8 mbit.
Relationship context
You are converting between byte-based units (decimal SI: kB, MB, GB, …) (Megabytes) and bit-based units (converted via 8 bits per byte) (Megabits). Bit units are mapped through 8 bits per byte, then scaled with the same decimal prefixes as byte units. The numeric factor is 8.000000e+0.
