Byte to Megabit Converter
Digital storage · unit-converter
Convert Byte to Megabit with fixed input and output units, a step-by-step formula line, and reference tables. This hub uses decimal byte units (kB, MB, GB, …) and decimal megabits; the main converter also includes binary (KiB, MiB, …) units.

About Byte
The byte is eight bits and is the usual addressable unit for files and memory. This converter expresses every unit in byte-equivalents using fixed factors.
About Megabit
The megabit (Mb) is 10⁶ bits. Dividing by 8 gives byte-equivalents for data size; ISP speeds (Mbps) refer to megabits per second, not megabytes.
How to convert bytes to megabits
1 byte is equal to 0.000008 megabit in this tool (values are compared in byte-equivalents):
1 b = (1 B ÷ 125,000 B) mbit = 0.000008 mbit
Each byte counts as 1 bytes and each megabit as 125,000 bytes, so one b equals 1 ÷ 125,000 mbit = 0.000008 mbit.
Let d(b) be the numeric amount in Byte (b), and d(mbit) the amount in Megabit (mbit). Then:
d(mbit) = d(b) × (1 / 125,000)
Equivalently, divide by how many b fit into one mbit (bytes per mbit divided by bytes per b):
d(mbit) = d(b) ÷ 125000
Or: megabit = byte ÷ 125000
Examples
Example #1: Convert 1 b to megabit
1 b = 1 b × (1/125,000) mbit = 0.000008 mbit
1 b = 1 b ÷ 125000 = 0.000008 mbit
Example #2: Convert 10 b to megabit
10 b = 10 b × (1/125,000) mbit = 0.00008 mbit
10 b = 10 b ÷ 125000 = 0.00008 mbit
Summary
To convert Byte to Megabit, multiply the value in b by the ratio of bytes per b divided by bytes per mbit. Equivalently: value_mbit = value_b × (1 / 125000). Numerically, 1 b equals 0.000008 mbit.
Relationship context
You are converting between byte-based units (decimal SI: kB, MB, GB, …) (Bytes) and bit-based units (converted via 8 bits per byte) (Megabits). Bit units are mapped through 8 bits per byte, then scaled with the same decimal prefixes as byte units. The numeric factor is 8.000000e-6.
